My Philosophy

I don’t know if ‘philosophy’ is the word, so here’s a bit about my approach.

It is my view that lighting in the live music sphere is, in essence, incredibly simple. I do not think there is any mystique to it, or magic spell to make it happen. There is a lot of bollocks talked about lighting, but I see it that the LD can make it as simple or as complicated as he or she wishes. It is up to the skill of the designer to design the show, and to reflect through light what the artist has given him or her, by using light, as well as shade and the dark.

Beyond that, lighting can create an air of mystery and drama, and the darkness and shadow can be just as important as the light. Any lighting designer worth their salt is sympathetic to live music, and a well-timed cue to draw the audience’s attention to solo, a huge hit or a delicate segue creates absolute magic.

Anyway, to quote the legendary Marti de Burgi, “Enough of my yakkin’….”. Welcome to That’s The Badger Lighting Design.
